As we may or may not know, Brazil is currently in a state of revolution. Citizens are taking a peaceful stand against the deeply trenched corruption found in their government. What I wonder about though, is the riot police.
In every protest there exists the riot police. The fist of the government. The hand that strikes down the protestors, whether they are violent or not. My question is, why? Once they take off their uniforms, the riot police becomes like every other citizen. They need food, water and shelter like everybody else. They might be fathers, mothers, brothers and aunts. They might have children, a family to worry about and feed. So they themselves must've seen the corruption taking place in the government. Why then, are they continuing to support this corruption? Is it for money? For honour? For duty?
I thought the duty of the police was to protect its citizens, first and foremost. What honour is there to shoot tear gas into crowds of peaceful protesters? How much money is worth a human life?
